The Story of SANO Handtrucks
From an Austrian Garage to a Global Leader in Stair Climbers
The journey of SANO Handtrucks began with a simple yet powerful idea in a small garage in Austria. In 1989, founder Jochum Bierma aimed to engineer a practical solution for moving heavy loads up and down stairs safely and efficiently. This vision led to the birth of SANO GmbH, a company dedicated to creating innovative material handling solutions and powered stair climbers.
Expansion in the United States
After thirty-five successful years establishing the SANO GmbH headquarters and two other subsidiaries, an opportunity arose to bring the company’s revolutionary transport solutions to the American market. Jeroen van der Ploeg, after two decades in the dairy industry in New Mexico, was seeking a new challenge. He embraced the opportunity to launch SANO Handtrucks LLC in the United States as its Managing Director. This move marked a significant milestone, introducing our advanced electric stair climbers, dolly carts, and powered hand trucks to a new audience and continuing our mission to revolutionize transport and mobility worldwide.
